Petitioners Detained on Tiananmen Square

The highest temperature in Beijing today was 3 degrees below, the coldest day this winter. It was also the second day of the visit of the Indian prime minister Singh. One hundred petitioners from all over China tried to get into Tiananmen Square to express their feeling of injustice, but they were all escorted out of the square by police.

Informed sources told Boxun that petitioners didn’t congregate, but spread out to enter the square. Heavily guarded, there were not many tourists, but there were many more police officers than usual. Police were at every street corner, armed officers searched every bag – it was almost as though police knew petitioners were returning to the square to creates a scene.
