Construction and the Rich-Poor Divide

Construction workers tend to come from the poorest regions of the country, flooding into the big cities to feed the nouveau riche’s desire for the newer and shinier. There have been dozens of reports over the years that these migrant workers are regularly taken advantage of: paid less than promised, or sometimes nothing at all. Obviously this drives down prices below the already rock bottom rates. So cheap is manual labor that companies do not simply destroy and re-build, but instead painstakingly re-use materials.
